JustLaws is an innovative social impact law firm in Philadelphia combining traditional legal services with strategic consulting around political and community engagement. We have three main practice areas:

Our Zoning Practice assists developers and small businesses who want to incorporate public engagement as a competitive advantage and empowers community groups to both stop destructive development and maximize community benefits agreements.

Our Government Relations and Local Government Practice leverages our deep relationships with elected officials and the Administration to help small businesses, unions and nonprofits overcome their challenges with the city. In addition to our practice before local agencies and the court of common pleas, we have an active practice arguing administrative agency and election law appeals before the Commonwealth Court and Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Our Political Law Practice assists progressive candidates, PACs and nonprofits with election, campaign finance and lobbying disclosure legal compliance.

We are hiring a paralegal. This exciting position has both traditional and non-traditional paralegal functions as well as organizational functions. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is nimble, an independent starter and creative thinker, someone who can juggle different tasks at once with special attention to detail and deadlines, comfortable with technology and exploring new ways to leverage data. Having excellent time management skills is a must.

An associate’s degree or a certificate in paralegal or legal studies, or a bachelor’s degree combined with paralegal experience is required.

Technical fluency is required. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word,

Microsoft Excel, Dropbox, Google Drive, Google and Apple Calendar are highly preferred skills. Familiarity with our law practice management platform MyCase is a plus.

Experience with progressive politics, nonprofit advocacy organizations, community organizing, lobbying, electoral or issue campaigns and prior labor union or government employment are all a plus.

The job responsibilities will include the following:

LEGAL

Conduct factual research in connection with cases.

Prepare drafts and final legal documents from drafts (including preparing table of authorities and table of contents); file (including electronic filing) and serve legal documents.

Organize and assemble exhibit binders for zoning appeals

Organize and analyze discovery, transcripts and exhibits, indexing documents and summarizing transcripts

Prepare and file federal and state campaign finance reports for political committees and

501(c) advocacy groups

Provide administrative support for hearings, argument, or trial

Organize correspondence, pleadings, discovery and other documents as directed by attorneys.

GENERAL MARKETING SUPPORT

Create content for social media, MailChimp newsletter and website

Research prospective referral sources and create tracking system for referrals

Respond to intake emails and phone calls and prepare summaries of interviews for attorney

ADMINISTRATIVE

Prepare drafts and final correspondence as directed

Read mail, email and monitor voicemail in timely fashion

Maintain law firm filing system

Create and monitor tracking systems for each practice area

Manage law firm calendar and schedule meetings and events

This position is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. JustLaws offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. Compensation starts at $55,000+ for candidates with two to four years of experience, and includes medical, dental and vision benefits, generous paid time off and paid holidays.
