Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced California-licensed attorney, who is also admitted to practice in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. to join our team as a Contract / Of Counsel Attorney with a concentration in real estate and landlord-tenant litigation. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience handling unlawful detainer actions and related real estate disputes from inception through trial. Candidates must have a deep understanding of the landlord-tenant and real estate law landscapes. As part of this role, you will have the opportunity to handle all stages of the unlawful detainer process, from drafting notices to tenants all the way through trial, and work directly with clients in a fast-paced, challenging environment. Candidates without unlawful detainer experience need not apply. This is a flexible, remote position offering autonomy and the opportunity to work with a collaborative, well-established firm.
Requirements
Manage and litigate unlawful detainer actions (both residential and commercial) through all phases, including notices, pleadings, discovery, and trial.
Draft, review, and advise on tenant-related notices in compliance with local and state law.
Handle tenancy buyouts and negotiations, ensuring compliance with Bay Area city ordinances.
Represent clients in real estate and lease disputes, including breach of covenant, wrongful eviction defense, and breach of habitability cases.
Assist with commercial and residential lease drafting and review, and advise on purchase and sale disputes, lease disputes, and failure-to-disclose actions.
Conduct legal research, maintain case strategy, and ensure compliance with all statutory deadlines.
Communicate directly with clients and opposing counsel in a professional, client-focused manner.
Provide clients with regular updates, legal advice, and guidance on their cases. Ensure clients are informed and confident throughout the legal process
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislative and case law developments in real estate and landlord-tenant law.
Qualifications
Active California Bar license in good standing.
10+ years of litigation experience with emphasis on unlawful detainer and real estate matters in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Strong command of California real estate, landlord-tenant law, civil procedure, and strict compliance with local rules.
Proven ability to handle cases independently while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively draft legal documents and interact with clients and opposing counsel.
Experience with LexisNexis or similar legal research tools preferred.
Compensation
Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience.
Flexible workload and scheduling as a contract / of counsel attorney.
